Manx Museum, The Overview
The origins of the Manx Museum date back to 1886 but it was not until 1922 that the museum acquired its first permanent home in what was formerly known as Noble's Old Hospital. The museum set about gathering various historical artifacts from around the island and it quickly became apparent that the museum needed bigger premises. In 1986 the museum underwent extensive development opening a new Prehistoric Archaeology Gallery and a film and lecture theater. The museum is now the biggest museum on the island with award-winning exhibitions. A popular film, The Story of Mann, detailing the colorful history of the island is on permanent display at the museum. Other attractions at the museum include exhibitions on maps, geology, the Vikings as well as the renowned National Art Gallery.
