Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Overview
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame celebrates the American rock music by honoring its most popular and influential performers, producers, songwriters and djs. The phrase 'rock and roll' was coined by the Cleveland dj Alan Freed in 1951, so it somehow seems fitting that Cleveland should have been chosen as the home of this attraction. Opened in 1995 and designed by the renowned Chinese architect I M Pei, the building is a 13,935 sq m (150,000 sq ft) modern structure with bold designs and a dramatic location on the shores of Lake Erie. The museum features a Hall of Fame exhibit, which includes a computerised juke-box containing nearly every song by performers featured, their signatures etched in glass, film exhibits and displays of artifacts. Exhibitions cover different musical genres focusing on icons from the world of rock and pop, including the Beatles, Elvis Presley and the Rolling Stones. Air: Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Rail: Rapid: Downtown to Public Square. Waterfront Rapid: North Coast Harbour Station. Road: Bus: Public services.
