    Guinea-Bissau’s few hotels and restaurants offer excellent food, though some places are expensive. Staples are cassava, yams and maize.
    National specialties:
    Jollof rice served with chicken or fish.
    National drinks:
    Palm wine.
    Cana de cajeu (cashew rum made from the fruit of the cashew nut).
    Tipping: 10 per cent is an acceptable amount, although not encouraged.
