WarningTravelers should be aware that there are high levels of crime and violence, particularly in the Kingston area and tourists should avoid certain routes.
The threat from terrorism is low. Most visits to Jamaica are trouble-free but you should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate international terrorist attacks, which could be against civilian targets, including places frequented by foreigners.
In December 2006, a small cluster of malaria cases has been reported in Kingston and St Catherine. Cases have been notified in the Denham Town, Trench Town, Tivoli Gardens and Delacree Park districts of Kingston. Before traveling seek medical advice about the malaria risk in Jamaica and take precautions to avoid being bitten whilst there.
The hurricane season in Jamaica normally runs from June to November.

Health CareHealth insurance is recommended, since medical treatment can be expensive. There are 16 public and six private hospitals. Standards vary hugely.
